As I write this, to my left, there is a bottle of ice-cold water.
Easily accessible.
Now if I happened to be born 1,000 years ago,..
...and was in need of some water, I’d probably have to travel a mile or so, to a clean creak to access it.
During my travels, danger lurked.
Back then, depending on where I would have lived, there could have been wolves, mountain lions, bears etc in my environment.
If I lacked anxiety, during my travels I wouldn’t be on edge, and therefore wouldn’t be aware of my surroundings, which means I would be more prone to attack, and even death.
During such circumstances,..
..anxiety is a GOOD thing,
and it was for very such circumstances that the system responsible for anxiety evolved; to protect and sustain life, and ensure reproduction.
While you live in 2022, your brain still lives in the stone ages.
Today, things are generally safe; it’s not every day that you happen to stumble upon a wild bear, lion, or wolf.
However, your brain doesn’t realise this, and still thinks danger lurks at every corner, at every moment. Resulting in unnecessary anxiety.
I recently made a short YouTube video discussing this, along with why anxiety is actually a GOOD thing, and also why coming to such a realisation can help us change our relationship with it, and therefore manage it better.
